First Things First
We understand that you want to know what ball to buy, but it is important that you know what you are looking for in a bowling ball. Hopefully, you have already determined what size ball you need and what coverstock and core styles you are interested in.
Here’s a quick refresher, just in case you are not certain about these things:
Weight is generally based on age, so children will use balls that weigh 10 pounds or less. Teens can usually handle 11 to 14 pound weights. Seniors and adult females are best with 12 to 14 pound balls, and adult males usually opt for 15 to 16 pounds.
Coverstocks come in three different materials, polyester, urethane, and reactive resin. Polyester is the most basic and great for beginners. Urethane is the next step up and will let you have a better hook than a polyester coverstock. And, professionals opt for the more expensive reactive resin as it creates the most friction and hooks extremely well.
Cores come in two shapes, symmetrical and asymmetrical. The more asymmetrical the core is, the better your hook potential will be. Asymmetrical cores are considered to be more aggressive and will definitely take some time getting used to.
