It’s been a tough start to the 2019 season for BowlerX Pro Staffer A.J. Johnson. After signing a staff contract with Ebonite International right around the New Year, the 26 year old Johnson has had a rough road, not making any FS1 or FOX shows. A few weeks ago, he was re-signed by the Silver Lake Atom Splitters for this years PBA League Elias Cup title defense. Last year AJ played a vital role in the run to the Cup with a slew of clutch shots. AJ has a lot of experience and a heap of passion. His energy in the Portland atmosphere at Bayside Bowl is always evident.
AJ did however qualify to represent Team USA in 2019 for a 5th time and is competing now at the PABCON Men’s Championships in Lima, Peru. Yesterday, he and his 20 year old teammate, Sean Wilcox, who is making his Team USA debut rolled a set to remember during the doubles competition. A.J. knocked down an incredible 1551 pins during the six games while Wilcox kept pace with 1511 for a combined 3062 (255 average) to crush the old record of 2917, held by Walter Ray Williams Jr and Patrick Allen, by 145 pins.
Competition at the 2019 event will resume Thursday morning with trios.
